ABSTRACT: Background: World Health Organization estimates that the world's neonatal
mortality rate has reached 298,000 or 49 per 1000 live births; Some causes of
neonatal death are infections (36%), therefore, nurses’ knowledge and skills on
the prevention of infection need to be improved in order to suppress the
incidence of neonatal infection and deaths.
Objective: Improving Nurses’ Ability in Preventing the Infection of ‘Nosokomial’
to Infants through Trainings of Preventing Infection in the NICU of Wates District
Hospital, Kulon Progo.
Methods: This was an applied study using an Pre experimental study design and
One Group pre and post design. The study sites were in the NICU of Wates
District Hospital, Kulon Progo, with study subjects as many as 15 nurses.
Results: Of the Preintervensi, the subjects’ characteristics based on the
education were 14 people (93.33) while the practice mean value was 15.40 and
standard deviation was 4.37. After being given treatment in the form of training,
the most common practice done was to wear gloves as many as 11 people
(73.33%) and the least done was to wash hands as many as 9 people (60%). The
highest improvement aspect was the aspect of processing used tools with a
mean difference value of the Preintervensi and the second week Postintervensi
as much as 4.46 and the lowest improvement aspect was the aspect of handwashing
with a mean difference in Preintervensi and the second week
Postintervensi as much as 0.73. The value of infection prevention practices
according to the standard in general presented an increase from 0% in the
Preintervensi to 53.33% (8 people) in the first week Postintervensi and 46.67% (7
people) in the second week Postintervensi.
Conclusion: Training on the prevention of nosocomial infection effectively
improved nurses’ practice skills in the prevention of nosocomial infections in
accordance with the standard.
INTISARI: Latar belakang: Badan Organisasi Kesehatan dunia memperkirakan
RSUD Wates Kulon Progo
Metode: Jenis penelitian terapan (Applied research) menggunakan
rancangan penelitian Pre eksperimental dengan One Group pre and post
design. Lokasi penelitian di ruang NICU RSUD Wates Kulon Progo
dengan subjek penelitian perawat sebanyak 15 orang.
Hasil: Dari Preintervensi diperoleh karakteristik subyek penelitian
berdasarkan pendidikan sebanyak 14 orang (93,33) sedangkan praktik
infeksi sesuai standart.
Kesimpulan: Pelatihan pencegahan infeksi nosokomial efektif dapat
meningkatkan kemampuan praktik pencegahan infeksi nosokomial sesuai
standar
